Send alerts to Discord

A Discord channel posts each Pingstack incident and recovery to one channel in your Discord server. Discord channels are available on every plan. An Admin connects or disconnects the account’s Discord server. An Editor or Admin can create and change Discord channels once a server is connected.

  • You need permission to add apps to the Discord server (Manage Server).
  • For a private Discord channel, decide which role will give Pingstack’s bot access to it.
  1. Select the intended Pingstack account.
  2. Open Notification channels and choose Connect Discord on the Discord card.
  3. In Discord, choose the server and approve the bot. It asks to view channels, send messages and embed links.
  4. Back in Pingstack, the card shows the connected server’s name.

Each Pingstack account connects one Discord server. To switch to a different server, delete the account’s Discord channels, disconnect, and connect the other server.

  1. Choose Add destination on the Discord card, or open a notification group and create a Discord channel.
  2. Pick a channel under Discord channel. The list contains the server’s text and announcement channels.
  3. For a private channel, give the bot’s role access to the channel in Discord first.
  4. Save. Pingstack posts a welcome message to the channel and opens the new channel’s page.
  5. Assign the notification group to the checks that should post there.

Expected result: the welcome message appears in the Discord channel. It confirms that the bot can post there, not that a check routes to the group. Verify routing with a controlled incident and recovery on a nonproduction check.

Pingstack reads the server’s channel list when you connect it, so a Discord channel created afterward doesn’t appear in the list until the server is connected again.

Each incident posts as an embed titled with the alert, linked to the check and colored red while open and green once resolved. It shows when the incident started (and resolved) in each reader’s own time zone, plus the cause and location when there are any. Pingstack turns off mentions in its messages, so a check name or cause can’t notify @everyone or a role. Discord channels also receive the weekly summary.

Delete the account’s Discord channels before you disconnect. Pingstack won’t disconnect a server that still has Discord channels. Once disconnected, the bot leaves the server.

If alerts stop arriving, check that the bot is still in the server and still has access to the channel, then review notification history.
